Become Your Own Superhero

AIMwell KIDS Yoga is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide yoga services and social and emotional practices to students while they are in school.
Our goal is to further research regarding yoga's impact on students.
Our purpose stems from research that yoga is an accessible modality of working through trauma, emotions, maintaining and aiding physical health, and forming positive connections.
We strive to build a data story that connects yoga services with reduced stress and negative behavioral issues, and increased emotional control, mindfulness, and overall wellbeing for children and adolescents.
Our goal is to raise $30,000 to bring a Yoga-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy program from Boston to KC. Will you support this trailblazing effort?

By offering yoga to adolescents we believe we will find an increase in mindfulness, stress reduction, physical mobility, emotional control and social support.
In building a data story that displays increased mindfulness, stress reduction, physical mobility, emotional control and social support we can begin to correlate these increased factors to health ailments such as heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory issues through predictive analytics. We predict this correlation will show that as we increase mindfulness, stress reduction, physical mobility, emotional control and social support we will expect a reduction in heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory issues. This reduction will lead to healthcare cost savings, thus saving health insurance, clinicians and patients money. Our goal is to explore the inclusion of the yoga practice within health insurance and clinical health plans.

For children and adolescents, yoga can play a vital role in creating a more dynamic learning experience for young minds. Introducing the practice of self-awareness, self- exploration, and mindfulness at a young age can help adolescents develop into healthy, confident, and conscious adults (Yoga 4 Classrooms, 2022). Just as adults need healthy outlets and spaces for stress relief, and time to process emotions and experiences, so do young minds.
Through research facilitated by AIMwell, we are offering a safe space for children to experience well-being, harmony and peace with the external world, while they develop.
Our youth are increasingly exposed to factors that impact their ability to connect to their emotions, feel empowered, accept and send compassion, empathize, build foundational healthy habits, and feel socially connected without the use of technology (Lantieri & Zakrzewski, 2015). Through the implementation of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Programs, schools have been able to explore elements of yoga, mindfulness, and other meditative based interventions on various types of students. The implementation of these interventions assist in bridging gaps between internal and external factors that lead to different behaviors displayed by students, inside and outside of the classroom.

First, establishing an introductory meeting to the AIMwell organization and overall efforts. Secondly, we will move forward with collaborating with administration from each school to establish the appropriate time, group, and understanding of the challenges that are mostly observed within students. Once time of research is selected, the instructor will undergo background check(s) to gain approval to work within the schools. The school administration will hang advertisement posters throughout the building, provided by AIMwell. These flyers will include AIMwell’s website for information, the time commitment, consent for recording (with no public distribution) and QR code for parental consent forms and registry. Other means of advertisements might include: assembly, meet and greets for students and parents, word of mouth, email newsletters. All inquiries and consent forms will be sent to the email address provided by AIMwell.
